템플스테이는 2002년부터 2021년까지 33곳의 운영사찰로 시작해 141곳으로 확대됐고, 참가자 연인원 수 역시 1만 명 남짓에서 601만 명으로 증가하는 쾌거를 이뤄냈다. 지난 20년간 화려한 성과를 일궈낸 템플스테이. 여러 통계와 자료를 모아 약관 스무 살의 템플스테이를 재구성해 봤다.

템플스테이가 세상과 접속하는 순간, 우리의 의도와 역량보다 더 큰 에너지를 발산해 다시 우리에게 돌아왔다. 20~30대, 특히 여성들이 시간과 돈을 지불하고 사찰로 찾아왔으며, 템플스테이와 사찰음식은 국제적 관심을 받는 ‘한국의 대표 브랜드’로 자리 잡았다.

사찰이 자리 잡은 산지의 숲은 ‘치유’를 제공했으며, 천년이 넘는 문화는 ‘조화로움’을 생각하게 했다. 차 한잔에 깃든 대화는 삶을 반성케 했다. 21세기의 시작과 더불어 시작된 템플스테이, 이제 20년을 넘어 ‘무엇을 지향할까’라는 물음을 고민해 본다

From 2002 to 2021, templestay accomplished the splendid feat whereas it has started at 33 temples with 10,000 participants and later expanded to 141 temples with 6.01 million. Templestay has achieved splendid achievements over the past 20 years. The twenty-year-old templestay is reconstructed by collecting various statistics and data at this article.

The moment when Templestay connects with the world, it radiates energy greater than our intentions and capabilities and returns to us again. People in their 20s and 30s, especially women, are willing to spend time and money to visit a temple, and templestay and food served there have become representative brands of Korea, getting global attention.

The forest in the mountainous area where the temple is located provided a sense of healing, and the culture of over a thousand years made us think of harmony. The conversation over a cup of tea made us reflect on life. Templestay started with the beginning of the 21st century. Now, more than 20 years have passed and we contemplate on the question “What should we aim for?”
